I think this log must be secured somehow because sensitive information such as usernames and password may be logged [if any query require this]; so may it be secured, not easily Flushing the logs then reopens a new file with the original file name. It can be easily recognised by file descriptor type column, which in case of this file will be showing unix. Mysql Query Logs I've generated a few errors and then checked /var/log/syslog, /var/log/mysql.log and /var/log/mysql/error.log and didn't see mysql errors in any of those files.
