It also requires you to force the response type that you would like in WCF because the IE method does not allow you to set any request header information. You do all your work in FireFox or maybe even Chrome so you can use Firebug or other Developer tools, and everything seems good, right? I had no idea how you worked this out, and I dread to think how much time you lost 🙁 but it solved my IE9 AJAX woes!!

Worked for me. Never can tell if clicking the "clear cache" and "always refresh from server" buttons are actually working. You have to set the ontimeout, onprogress, onload, onerror, and timeout values AFTER the xdr.open method. The issue is likely the cross domain problem.
