They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Canon's instructions (by phone) are to 'remove the batteries, rotate the on button and hold for 5 seconds, and then replace the battery'. Nice camera but two lens errors confirms this is a design flaw. I purchased this camera at a garage sale for five dollars. Whatever the reason is for having the lens error, you can try and fix it yourself by following our Canon lens error (E18 error) repair instructions. Highly recommend them. I tried all the suggested fixes and finally got it to close by holding the "on" button down until the lens moved.
